We at Rhima Australia not only talk about being green- we practise it every day. That’s why we’re delighted to talk about our ongoing cooperation with Rethink Recycling. A not-for-profit cooperative that works to reduce waste and encourage action via education as well as community participation.

This partnership is an excellent example of how our “Rethink. Reuse. Rhima.” program works. It demonstrates how businesses as well as communities can work together to make a sustainable environment. We, together with Rethink Recycling, are working to cut down on plastic waste, encourage reuse, and come closer to a genuinely circular economy.
Creating Change on the Ground
Nathan, a member of our team, went to the Rethink Recycling MakerSpace in Springvale, Victoria, recently. What was his goal? To set up a refurbished Rhima GS-40 commercial dishwasher. It was donated by Rhima to this non-profit organisation to help with their daily operations. This equipment is now an important part of their business since it cleans each plastic bottle lid they get from the public exceptionally well.

It’s a perfect partnership. Rethink Recycling collects plastic bottle caps, which we typically toss away, while Rhima makes sure they are cleaned properly and ready to be used again. After that, volunteers sort the clean lids by colour and resin identifying code by hand, getting them ready to be remanufactured into new, useful items.
600 Kg Of Plastic Kept Out Of Landfills
Kym, the co-founder of Rethink Recycling, told us some surprising numbers during our visit. They recently had more than 150 kilograms of lids donated in only one day. They have gathered more than 550 kilograms of plastic (almost 200,000 lids) this year alone, which is a huge quantity that won’t end up in a landfill.
This accomplishment is a clear indication that even little actions like picking up a lid may have a big impact when people and groups work together.
Turning Waste Into Something New
At Rethink Recycling Co-op’s MakerSpace, collected plastic lids are carefully cleaned, sorted, and prepared for transformation. Using a mix of custom-designed and pre-made moulds, the team and volunteers remanufacture lids into durable, functional items such as school supplies, community resources, and other bespoke items – keeping valuable materials in circulation and out of landfill.
It’s not only about recycling; it’s about changing the way we think about waste. Their products and processes help individuals think of plastic as something useful, valuable, as well as full of possibilities, not just something to toss away.

Spreading the Message
The Rethink Recycling crew is very interested in educating outside of the workshop as well. They go to schools as well as community groups across Victoria to teach the community how to think differently about trash. Their programs are interactive, fun, and memorable.
A Shared Commitment to Being Green
We at Rhima are happy to help groups that are making a significant difference in the community. It’s not only about giving equipment to Rethink Recycling; it’s also about sharing beliefs and working together for a brighter future.
The goal of “Rethink. Reuse. Rhima.” is to create smart, long-lasting ways to aid the planet as well as the people on it.
Let’s keep thinking about how to lower waste, reuse resources, and work together for a better future.
